Lake Health
Healthy lakes don't happen by chance. They happen when a community cares, monitors and takes action.

Friends of Chesley Lake is committed to understanding and protecting the health of our lake.
Through monitoring, research, stewardship, and community partnerships, we support initiatives that help keep Chesley Lake clean, healthy and resilient for future generations.
Water quality is one of the most important indicators of lake health. FOCL supports efforts to monitor water quality and understand long-term trends that may affect the lake ecosystem. These efforts help identify potential concerns and guide future stewardship activities.
Chesley Lake supports a diverse fish community and remains an important recreational fishery.
Current information on fish species, stocking history, fishing regulations, lake depth contours, and other fisheries data can be accessed through Ontario's Fish ON-Line tool.

Aquatic invasive species can impact biodiversity, fish habitat, recreation, and overall lake health. FOCL works to raise awareness, support monitoring efforts, and encourage practices that help prevent the introduction and spread of invasive species.
In 2026, FOCL applied to participate in a provincial Aquatic Invasive Species Lake Assessment Pilot through FOCA and the Green Shovels Collaborative. If selected, the project will help identify invasive species present in Chesley Lake, assess potential risks, and provide recommendations to support future stewardship efforts.
Understanding lake health requires long-term observation and data collection. FOCL supports monitoring initiatives and works with partners, researchers, and government agencies to better understand the environmental conditions affecting Chesley Lake.
